Examined life
The philosopher I'm choosing to write about is Peter Singer, he seemed like a philosopher that made more sense than the other ones introduced in the movie, examined life. I got more out of him and was less work to understand. Some of the ideas that the philosopher talked about was that us people in the world care more about top brands and that a person has to double think about taking off expensive shoes before jumping into a pond with a drowning kid in it, as the analogy that the philosopher gave. I think that he is correct because people now a days are more materialistic and care more about there things than they do about themselves. But i guess his point of view of this is that shoes that cost 300 dollars are worth more to be taken off because with that money you can save more people than you would by jumping into the water with them and ruining the shoes. I guess that can be true but it sounds so wrong to be doing such a thing to a child though i mean if you can save a life at that precise moment i don't think it would matter how much the shoes are as long as you save a life, a son of god is worth more than anything out there in the world. The philosopher also states that applied ethics challenges norms, so from this i'm guessing it means that something that is ethical in the world challenges the norms around us because norms are different all over the world so you never know where some ethical ways are accepted and not, making it be a challenge to norms. Peter Singer also states that we have a moral obligation to help and not hurt. This is true because in society today the last thing that someone wants to be known as is the bad guy and someone that is no help to society, we want to be known as the good, warm hearted person that everyone does and for that, we have moral obligation to help and not hurt. He also talks about why we as humans have the entitlement to be able to kill weaker animals like cows and pigs. What makes us be more powerful then them? We are all the same here in the world trying to survive while we are the people that are the ones not letting these animals live there lives that they were suppose to live, all because we humans like the taste of the flesh of certain animals. I mean don't get me wrong i love meat, and its not my fault i was put into the category of a carnivore that likes eating animals. If i was raised different and thought to love animals and not eat them i would probably turn out to be a non meat eater.
